I just got back from Epicurious- a gourmet food festival to raise money for the Yukon Hospital Foundation’s MRI Fund. It was a lot of fun- I’m pretty sure tickets were sold out or close to it- tons of people there! The whole peripheral of the Convention Centre was lined with restaurants and chefs and tons of food samples.
I tried to take pictures but it was difficult to balance a drink, a plate and a camera, so here are my attempts at photography… I made a bee-line for Ruby’s, which had a sampler of vegan meat alternatives, like buffalo wings…
And The Fruit Stand (worth checking out in the summer- it’s closed right now) had the freshest fruit kabobs ever (where are they getting the fruit? I can’t find fruit that fresh anywhere right now!).
Otherwise the rest was meat stuff, and non-vegan desserts, which I am told were very tasty!
Lynn Crawford (Pitchin’ In, Iron Chef, Restaurant Makeover) was the celebrity chef on site for the event, she came by the station yesterday for an interview so I got to meet her then- super cool lady!
I now have an autographed poster on the wall of my office!
Speaking of food, I mentioned I wanted to check out Burnt Toast- which I have since done (twice!). They have a great sandwich with black beans and veggies:
They also serve delicious coffee, not sure which brand but it is yummy!
Next on the agenda: trying snowshoe running tomorrow!

Kirstin you will not believe it but I spent some time last week looking at the shoes they use for that(not exactly shoes).I was waiting for Robert who was looking for boots for work at the 3 Vets.I was looking at these things and thought you might have some and try running. They say you have to be in good shape,I hope the clerk didnt think I was going to try them.
lol!
Yeah I have to wear actual mukluks with the traditional snowshoes, they are actually quite comfy, I think with the newer types of snowshoes I could have just worn my trail-running shoes?
Hey, Glad you had a great time at Epicurious. Wish I went. I was locked down canning salmon for my pantry most of the evening. Next year I will set my priorities straight!
Canning is pretty time consuming isn’t it? I’ve been meaning to start doing it with my vegggies and sauces, especially for days when it is just too cold to go to the store…but definitely Epicurious is worth prioritizing for next year!
